Green Reading

See through the eyes of a professional.

No matter how good your stroke or how well you align yourself; if you haven’t read the green correctly, the putt is a lost cause. You must know what to look for or you wont see it. Make green reading a true art. Below I have listed a few useful insights to help with green reading: -

·   Ask questions, gain local information about your greens, and when visiting other courses.
·   In practice rounds try to putt from all sides of the green to different locations.
·   Note slopes that you see, draw a map of the green like a planner.
·   Look at a putt from all four sides.
·   Know the type and structure of your greens, are they affected by the weather?
·   When approaching the green, observe the ground conditions.
·   Pay special attention to the last third of the putt.
·   Pay attention to slope and grain.
·   A lot of greens slope from back to front.

There are many issues when it comes to green reading but the eyes must learn to look.
